Affirmative Action: Giving Preferential Admissions to Minority Students

Should universities eliminate affirmative reach polices that give preferential treatment in admissions to nonage status? Anyone interested in high education should want to contemplate, on behalf of colleges and universities, students and faculty, alumni and paying parents, the fate of affirmative action(Chace, M William 20). The Oxford Dictionary states approbatory Action is an action or policy favoring those who tend to match from discrimination, especially in relation to employment or education positive discrimination. In 1961, John F. Kennedy signed an Executive Order calling for affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and that employees are treated during employment, without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin. This is now known today as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission(EEOC). Affirmative action policies would later be forced upon businesses and have also been instituted at many universities where minorities are given preferred admissions over non-minorities. An Example of this would be at the University of Michigan where applicants who represented racial or ethnic minorities were given 20 points towards admission out of a 150 point system where only hundred points were needed to gain admission. Trying to put the 20 points in perspective, applicants with perfect SAT scores only received 12 points toward admission. This system was later in love down by the Supreme Court, but another similar policy was upheld at the University of Michigan Law School. With how diverse our society is currently compared to years ago, it seems to praise that the policies have indeed worked. But now, the policies are questioned by many as whether or not they moral, constitutional, and/or... ...s CitedCharles, Camille Z., et al. Single Parenting Essay -- Divorced Parents Children Health Essays

Single ParentingSingle parents and their children constitute a rapidly increasing population. In the yesteryear single parenting was seen as a broken system, these units today provide a viable alternative to nuclear families (Kleist, 1999, p. 1). In looking at the characteristics of single parents training red-blooded children, I will describe some of the challenges unique to single parenting, and review validating parenting techniques shown to be effective. Social Development has not prepared individuals to be single parents. Single mothers and single fathers need to establish strong support networks, personal friendships, and positive parenting skills. They need to learn how to synchronize the demands of work, home-care, and supervision of children (Benson, 1993). They need to inflict limits, rules, and boundaries consistently, and to transmit responsibility and values, in order to raise responsible, self-controlled, and healthy children (Cloud, and Townsend, 1998). They need to find ways to improve and maintain their self-esteem. Many single parents learn to do it on reduced incomes, find acceptable ways to deal with non-custodial parent, and redefine their relationships with their children. These are but a few of the challenges facing single parents (Benson, 1993).Raising healthy children has more to do with the emotional well cosmos of its members then on family composition (Heath, 1999). So then, how do single parents foster emotional well being amongst its members, while maintaining a full schedule of work, education, day care, deadlines, finances? It may be difficult and exhausting at times, but it is possible, and the rewards are many (Heath, 1999, p. 429). agree to Heath, some of the areas affecting positive outcomes are family stability, self-esteem, and positive parenting (p 429). Our job as parents is to transmit values and the tools necessary for our children to be healthy adults being able to power in the world responsibly and with self-c ontrol (Cloud, and Townsend, 1998).Family StabilityChildren need to feel safe. They shouldnt have to worry about their needs being met. They need social organisation and routine in order to feel safe and know what to expect. Family conflicts need to be resolved in productive ways. Home should be a rest period of function, security, and serenity. Investigate the rate of reaction between Calcium Carbonate and Hydrochl

Investigate the rate of defendion amidst Calcium Carbonate and Hydrochloric Acid at different concentrationsAimTo Investigate the rate of reaction between Calcium Carbonate andHydrochloric Acid at different concentrations. Background KnowledgeI know from my knowledge of science, that by adding together a carbon copyate and an acid, that a salt, water and Carbon Dioxide are conjure upd. Therefore in order to measure the rate of reaction, one ofthese products needs to be measured, and the rate at which it isproduced can be used to define the rate of the reaction. The methodsthat can be used are either to measure the mass of the solution atintervals. Or to measure the produce of gas (Carbon Dioxide).PredictionUsing the known formulaACID + CARBONATE SALT + CARBON DIOXIDE + WATERI can predict the reaction of my examine to beHYDROCHLORIC + CALCIUM CALCIUM + WATER + CARBONACID CARBONATE CHLORIDE DIOXIDEThe Chemical Formula is listed below2HCl + CaCO3 CaCl2 + H20 + CO2I think that as th e thousand of the acid goes up, the amount of gasproduced will also go up.I have based this on my knowledge that calcium carbonate does notreact in water. Therefore in solutions with little acid and to a greater extentwater, the calcium carbonate will not react as much as it would inpure acid for example. To make each of the different strengths of theacid, water is added to a solution of 2M hydrochloric acid. Thereforein the 0.2 value, there will be a hatful of water, and so it is notexpected that much gas will be produced. My predicted graph shows what I expect. On the x-axis, as the molarityincreases, the gas produced on the y-axis does likewise. save therewill be a point reached where the maximum limit of gas has beenprod... ...a clear trend that as the molarity of theacid increases, the volume of carbon dioxide will also do the same. There is an even trend going up, with a straight line to fit as theline of best fit.The suit for this pattern is the same as that that was made in theprediction. As the concentration of the acid increases, there are moreHCl molecules and so there is more probability of the calcium carbonatemolecules colliding with these and so reacting to form calciumchloride. With the reaction occurring more often, the products willform in a greater quantity and so more carbon dioxide is produced. This reflects the rate of the reaction on the graph and proves myprediction and its theory correct.EvaluationAs the experiment was computer generated, it simulated how theexperiment would have been conducted. It accounted for charitable errors inall aspects of the expriment.
